How We Got Here
Founded in 1995 by Katya Fels-Smyth, On The Rise emerged from the feedback of homeless women falling through the gaps of the social service system. Recognizing the limits of fragmented social services, she envisioned a low-barrier model focused on lasting relationships and wrap-around support, giving program participants opportunities to build trust over time in order to address the issues connected to and underlying their homelessness.
Today, On The Rise continues to grow, providing innovative, evidence-based, and effective services to over 450 women, transgender, and gender diverse participants annually.
