MESSAGE OF CARING

  • Cook healthy lunches for our Safe Haven

You prepare at home a luncheon entrée, salad, or dessert that will serve approximately 10-15 women and deliver it to On The Rise. Our lunch-time cooks make a huge difference in the day-to-day operation of our Safe Haven and allow us to provide more healthy and delicious food options for women. You can sign-up for a regular day each month or for a day that fits your schedule.

Community Cooks is a group of Boston area residents joined together by a shared desire to help our less fortunate neighbors, and has provided meals to non-profit agencies, including On The Rise. If you are interested in providing meals through Community Cooks or to learn more, please email Vicki I at vickyi05@comcast.net .

  • Organize a Make-it-Home Team

Through our Make-It-Home program, a volunteer signs up to conduct a drive at her company, church, neighborhood or organization to collect new and used items that are on the personal wish list of a woman at On The Rise who has recently secured housing. We send a short bio and wish list of a particular woman who the Make-It-Home team can help. Each year, On The Rise helps 30-45 homeless women secure housing of their own. This transition brings new challenges and responsibilities for her. With support from our community, we help each woman get settled by collecting the items that she needs to make it feel like home.

  • Come to a Volunteer Saturday

On the first Saturday of the month, groups, families, and individuals come to On The Rise to help with a variety of projects – such as doing yard work, organizing clothing and housewares donations, painting and repairing the house, or preparing mailings. These projects are not always the most glamorous, but they can be fun and are so important to our ability to keep a dignified and respectful house. The group will receive a personal tour of the house and we will provide refreshments. Please call to check our schedule.

  • Find out more about regular volunteer opportunities

Our regular volunteers commit several hours each month to help us with routine upkeep, such as organizing our housewares and clothing rooms, helping with office administration, or updating our information resources. To become a regular volunteer, you should first come to an Open House or a volunteer Saturday.

Please call (617) 497-7968 x 36 or email Donna.Thach@ontherise.org to find out more. ""
